Event regulation

UniChess SSDRL, in collaboration with EMMEDI SPORT ASD under the auspices of the European Chess Union and the Italian Chess Federation.

The Championship will be organized by UniChess in collaboration with Emmedi Sport ASD, under the auspices of the Italian Chess Federation and International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The Championship will be held from April 16 day of arrival) until April 26 (day of departure) 2023 in ClubEsse Posada Beach Resort 4*, Palau – Sardinia

The Championships are open tournaments for players registered or approved by their federation.
ECU member federations shall have the right to send as many players as they wish.

All players must not hold any title above CM (or WCM for women) in the sections Under-1700 and Under-2000.
All players must not hold any title above FM (or WFM for women) in the section Under-2300.
A player must not have a published FIDE rating of 2300 or greater for at least one year prior to the registration deadline of the event. For the Under-2000 section, a player must not have a published FIDE rating of 2000 or greater for at least one year prior to the start of the championship. For the Under-1700 section, a player must not have a published FIDE rating of 1700 or greater for at least one year prior to the start of the championship. In case a player exceeds the rating of 1700 or 2000 after the registration deadline, he/she will play the upper rating category.

All players should confirm their participation on April 16 between 15.00 and 21:00.

There will be separate championships for categories Under-2300, Under-2000 and Under- 1700.
In each rating section, a separate championship for women shall be organized only if there are at least 10 women entries otherwise the women’s event will be merged with men (open). The championship is organized in a 9-round Swiss system, in accordance with FIDE Laws of Chess and the ECU Tournament Rules. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

The order of players that finish with the same number of points shall be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from (a) to (b) to (c) to (d) to (e) the extent required:
(a) Results of direct encounters between the tied players (applies only if all tied players have played each other),
(b) Buchholz Cut 1,
(c) Buchholz,
(d) The greater number of games played with black,
(e) The greater number of wins.

The total prize fund is 4,000.00 Euros

Each player can win only one money prize (the highest). For the players with the same number of points prizes are distributed according the Hort system, among such number of players corresponding to number of advertised prizes.

  • The winners of each category receive the relevant title: “European Amateur Chess Champion under 1700 under 2000 and 2300.”
  • The winners of women categories receive the relevant title: “European Women Amateur Chess Champion under 1700 under 2000 and 2300.”
  • The players taking the first three places in each championship section will be awarded with cups. Trophies will be awarded after applying tie-break criteria.
  • The winner of each European Amateur championship section and the winner of each women European Amateur championship section will be personally invited to participate (with free accommodation sharing a double room) in the next World Amateur Championship, (as long as they don't reach or exceed 2300 rating by the registration deadline) and their places cannot be substituted.

The registration fee is 65.00 EUR (The ECU entry fee of 30.00 EUR is included in the registration fee). The registration deadline is 10th of April, the players should register by filling out the official form available here: Registration Form EACC2023

No later than 10th of April 2023 each participant shall register for the tournament. The registration must include surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and title of each player and should be sent by an email to: ecuamateur2023@gmail.com

The ClubEsse Posada Beach Resort is four-star business hotel in Palau. The Club Esse Posada Beach Resort property is located in Palau in the province of Sassari, 44 km from Olbia Costa Smeralda airport, 42 km from the port of Olbia, 48 km from the port of Golfo Aranci and is 500 m from the center of Palau and 24 km from the center of Santa Teresa di Gallura and 32 km from the center of Porto Cervo.

The Club Esse Posada resort rises directly on the sea, in front of the Maddalena Park. The resort consists of two bodies: Sa Posada with 116 rooms in strict Sardinian style, and Sa Marina with 55 rooms a few meters from the beach.

The price for accommodation in ClubEsse Posada Beach Resort for full board is:

  • Single room 82.00 Euros per day/per person
  • Double room 65.00 Euros per day/per person

The total cost of accommodation from 16.04.2023 to 26.04.2022 and full board is, including city tax which is 2.00 Euros per day:

  • 840.00 EUR in single room
  • 670.00 EUR per person in double room.

The Organizer can only guarantee accommodation in the official hotel when reservation and payment has been made on time. Regarding this we are asking all players to make all necessary reservations and payments on time. After the registration deadline, organizers are not obliged to provide accommodation and board. Players and accompanying persons who choose another hotel than the official one will take the risks of their transportation to the playing venue, security, and lacking official tournament information.

On demand the organizers will provide transportation from Olbia international airport to the official hotel on April 16th (arrival) and back on April 26th (departure). Transportation on other days is possible on personal requests and its cost will be communicated upon availability.
The transfer fee (both ways) is 20.00 Euros per person to be paid in advance.

All participants (players, accompanying persons, etc.) have to insure themselves for health and accident risk for the period of the Championship.

Citizens of the following European countries are not required to be in possession of a visa when entering Italy for less than 90 days: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, North Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
For the citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine the visa waiver applies only to the holders of biometric passports. Serbian citizens holding passports issued by the Serbian Coordination Directorate (in Serbian: Koordinaciona uprava) are excluded from the visa waiver.
The nationals of San Marino and the Vatican are exempt from the visa requirement in any case. For nationals of the United Kingdom, the visa waiver for stays of up to 90 days also applies to the case of paid employment.

A person wishing to receive an invitation for a visa from the organizers have to stay in the official venue. Persons who prefer to stay elsewhere need to take care of their visas on their own.
The organizers will not be responsible for issuing an invitation for visa purpose if necessary information (last name, first name, date of birth of each player, head of delegation, passport number, date of issue and validity) and scanned copy of the passport are submitted after the registration and payments are not done.
